Summer is For Kids! And we know it!
The world is a beautiful place. We know this is true because every year millions of people use some of their Summer-time to go see the grandeur and variety of natural wonders in the world. From the heights of the Himalayas, to the depths of the Grand Canyon, right now some child, somewhere, is saying "Wow!"
Strangely, the world is also a scary place, a hungry place, a painful place, and a dying place. On these long, warm Summer days, children everywhere feel the
desire to go do something fun. But many of them are not able. From hospital beds to cowering under a bed, right now some child, somewhere, is crying, "ow".
With all the travail that children go through, sometimes it is a wonder that any of them grow up to be healthy, happy, intelligent, compassionate, and generous adults.
Yet, here you are. proof that good things do happen! You may not be completely healthy, or perfectly happy, but just by being on this web page,
reading these words, considering the possibility of making some sort of donation (EG: time, effort, goods, service, money, etc.) you have proven to yourself that you are compassionate.
Taking the time to study, like this, shows that you are intellegent, and your ulimate action, I hope, will show that you are also generous!

It's not just the National scene that warms an Eagle heart. There are a myriad of opportunities to make a difference in our own backyard!
We have our homegrown Charities that we work to fund, like the SMA, as told over on the Local Charities page. In our Aerie we have parties, karaoke, and social gatherings and somehow all that frivolity will end up raising money for one thing or another.
However, there is more to it than just organized charities. We have community events, several times a year. We also allow other non-profit charities to use the building and property, Free of charge, to help their fundraising to also be successful. WThen of course, we like our neighbors and want to be hospitable towards them. How can we be successful in all these endeavors if our facility, our Aerie, looks dreary?
We are simple folk; we have no need for palaces and outlandish trappings. It is also true that we are proud folk, so we want to make the best of what we have. When we offer our building to others, it is our desire to share with them the best that we possibly can. When the neighbors are coming down the street, we want them to be glad that we are in the neighborhood! When visitors attend a function, they should feel comfortable and welcomed in our building.
With all this in mind, we included the Rummage Sale with the Community Festivities. It really is quite ingenious: while
the community is beautified by the freshening of homes (un-used items moving out, desired items moving in, recycling instead of throwing away good things) hosting the rummage sale will garner us the funds we need to pay for the Event, freshen the Aerie, and beautify the property!
We know the neighbors will like this. We believe that other charities will be more likely to accept our FREE facilities. It is possible that quality people will more likely want to be a part of our Charitable Success. Yes, everything does work together to create a stronger "force for good" in the community!

New Diabetes Research Center, Grants
There is no doubt, to most people, that diabetes is a terrible disease. Its devastating consequences include blindness, kidney failure, heart disease, amputations, and other major health issues. Lifetime medical costs for a person with diabetes are two to three times higher than for the average person.
The illness affects 24 million people across the United States and three million in Canada. The numbers continue to grow each year.
Nevertheless, diabetes is only an illness. Eagles, on the other hand, are "People Helping People!" who are not afraid to put their money where their mouth is!
September 16, 2008 the Eagles made a $25 million Pledge to Fund Diabetes Research!

Giving $5million dollars a year, over 5 years with all money donated going directly to funding research. The Eagles’ investment in the Diabetes Research Center will make a life-or-death difference for the future of millions of people with diabetes.

The University of Iowa has committed the entire cost of construction, bricks and mortar, ongoing maintenance and operations.

The official name is The Fraternal Order of Eagles Diabetes Research Center at The University of Iowa.
We are creating a different future for today's children; we are funding the search for a CURE, not just a treatment! Most of the fundraising for this great outreach is done "by Eagles, for Eagles". Yet, every once in a while we throw open the doors and encourage other partners to have a piece of that victory pie!

The Jimmy Durante Children's Fund
Childhood should be a time of learning, experimenting, and playing, at least for a little while! Unfortunately, this is not always the case. Sometimes bad things happen to children. Sometimes there are accidents like a bad slip-and-fall, a car wreck, or a house fire. Sometimes there are illnesses, a death in the family, or a tornado. Sometimes there is evil intent, substance abuse, and physical abuse.
But, all is not lost. When bad things happen to children, there are often people who want to help. That is where the Eagles come in.
Though it is true that many of our members do wonderfully good works on their own as individuals, we are never stronger than when we work together. So the Eagles Partner with other helpful children’s organizations to give them what they need most: Money!
Money raised through the Jimmy Durante Children’s Fund and Child Abuse Prevention Fund are one of the Eagle’s greatest achievements. The fund was named in honor of Jimmy Durante, entertainer and past "Life-member" of the Fraternal Order of Eagles.
All money raised for the Jimmy Durante Children’s Fund or The Child Abuse Prevention Fund, is used in the State, or Province, it was donated. These funds are given, in the form of grants, to child-helping organizations. Many child-help organizations get some, or maybe all, of their funds through these Eagle Grants!
This is a chance to help "fight the terrors in a Childs life" by donating, or by helping to raise money for the Jimmy Durante Children's Fund!
